Leroy Sane will not stay at Manchester City beyond his contract as confirmed by Pep Guardiola, and Bayern Munich are one of those most interested in him.
Manchester City were on the losing end against Chelsea, who beat them by a 2-1 margin on Thursday evening. Liverpool won the league courtesy of the result between the two blue giants and while the Stamford Bridge outfit still has a lot to play for, the Citizens can go back to the drawing board as far as the Premier League concerned.
Pep Guardiola will definitely open the cheque book and look to add players onto his roster but the manager could need to do so by getting rid of some players from his already inflated squad. Leroy Sane is someone who doesn’t have a long-term future at the Etihad Stadium after deciding against renewing his contract at the club.
Leroy Sane’s association with the Citizens comes to an end at the end of the 2020/21 campaign and their manager did confirm about the player’s intentions to leave. With that said, Bayern Munich have been hovering over the player’s situation ever since the last summer as they believe he’ll be a good replacement for Franck Ribery on the left wing.
Bundesliga’s champions decided against landing the Germany international last year as a result of the long-term injury he suffered and therefore settled for Philippe Coutinho, who arrived on a loan deal. However, with the Brazilian set to return to the books of Barca unless otherwise, they have reignited interest in bringing across the ex-Schalke man.
However, they have now decided to wait for Sane until the next summer, as reported by Sport1. Bayern Munich were willing to offer between 40 and 60 million euros for their wanted man, but Manchester City instead demanded in excess of that figure as a result of their financial depression due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As such, the Citizens don’t have much of a negotiating capacity given the fact that Sane’s contract will expire next year and he will be able to walk away for free. Hence, the deal could go through sooner or later with the club accepting what the Bavarian giants pay regardless of whether they are satisfied with the sum or not.
Sane’s departure will majorly impact the Premier League giants. The German’s absence was felt this season and is visible by the massive gap in points between first placed Liverpool and second placed City. Moreover, he is a big game player whose contribution in terms of goals and assists is exquisite and thus, replacing him wouldn’t be an easy task either.
On a lighter note, the club has shortlisted 20-year-old Burnley winger Dwight McNeil over a potential switch across to the Etihad. Having said that, it’s questionable whether they must sign the Englishman given the fact that he is still to prove himself and has only two goals and six assists in 31 Premier League appearances for the Clarets.
