Bayern Munich are frontrunners in the bid to sign Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig who is wanted by several top European sides currently.
Dayot Upamecano is one of the most sought after defenders in the transfer market. The 22-year-old has a release clause worth 40 million pounds which is an understatement when compared to the quality that Upamecano possesses. Clubs such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea are on high alert as they continue to monitor the talented defender’s situation at Leipzig.
Reports from Marca state that Bayern Munich has been in contact with Dayot Upamecano and his agent. It is believed that the Bavarians have entered an advanced stage of negotiation with the player’s agent as well.
“I know that Bayern have been in contact with Upamecano’s agent and that talks are advanced,” said journalist Alfred Draxler to Sport 1.
The European champions are looking for a replacement for David Alaba. The Austrian defender will be leaving the club as a free agent at the end of the season after months of renewal negotiations. Bayern and Alaba had reached a deadlock over renewal talks due to the immense salary that was demanded from the Austrian defender.
Rumours now state that Real Madrid are closer than ever in their bid to sign Alaba. Los Blancos face the potential risk of losing out Sergio Ramos at the end of the season due to renewal issues, however, the club eye the Bayern defender as an alternative back-up. Since David Alaba is set to leave, Hansi Flick and his team prepare to go all out for Upamecano.
Chelsea also wants the 22-year-old, however, the Blues could struggle in signing the player since his agent shares a close relationship with Bayern Munich and its board. Could Dayot Upamecano be on his way to the Allianz Arena next season?
