Bayern Munich sporting director reveals the details about the rumours regarding Kingsley Coman‘s move to Manchester United
Bayern Munich made the purchase of Leroy Sane from Manchester City at the starting of the transfer window as a possible replacement for one of the deadly duo of wingers that played for the Bavarians, Franck Ribery, and Arjen Robben. The German is expected to partner up with Serge Gnabry on the opposite flank which will make the already deadly attack of Bayern all the more potent.
However, with the arrival of the 24-year-old to the club, there would be no positions left for their star Kingsley Coman to play. Looking at this, reports emerged that Manchester United was looking to bring the Frenchman to the Old Trafford as a replacement for Jadon Sancho if they failed to sign him. The former Juventus man would have made a fantastic alternative to the talented Englishman due to the pace and control on the ball that he brings to the wings.
The France international would also have been a much cheaper alternative with Sancho being priced for a fee above 110 million euros. Reports from various news sources were stating that United was inquiring to the Bavarians for a possible move but recently, the Bundesliga champions’ sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has made a statement regarding the rumours surrounding Coman’s move to the Premier League.
Salihamidzic has insisted that the club did not receive any formalized request from the Red Devils, also saying that any offer would have been turned down as Coman remains to be the club’s prized asset and still has three years left until his contract expires. The sporting director also stressed on the 24-year-old’s importance to the club, mentioning the winning goal the winger scored in the UEFA Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, leading the Bundesliga side to a treble.
Bayern Munich will continue to be one of the if not the best attacking side in Europe, with a lineup of forwards that can manage to score goals against any backline in the world. With Kingsley Coman staying with the club and Douglas Costa coming in as a loan from Juventus, manager Hansi Flick will have a number of options to play on the wings and it will be interesting to see whether the Bundesliga giants can repeat, or come close to the feats achieved in the 2019-2020 season.
