Arsenal are eyeing a stunning transfer for one of the best Barcelona youngsters from the 2020/21 season so far.
Arsenal currently find themselves at 11th place in the Premier League after encountering their worst ever start to a league season. Mikel Arteta’s men have knit up a run of successive wins to mount on upward surge from 15th place in recent weeks, but the Gunners still have a lot to be done if they are to finish the season with any silverware.
The north Londoners have not won a Premier League title in over a decade now, but by the looks of the squad they possess, the younger players may hold key in guiding them to success in the next few years. Mikel Arteta is certainly ambitious enough and has the tactical prowess to form a winning project with a squad to do so.
One of the major issues which Arsenal are facing is that the senior players are underperforming. The likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Willian are inconsistent and have not had great seasons on an individual level in the final third, whereas David Luiz and Sokratis have been lacklustre at the back.
The Gunners’ bright side though is that they have some of the most talented youngsters across English football on their roster. Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and Folarin Balogun are just a handful of youngsters who have done great things at the Emirates Stadium so far and a new-look approach could see Arsenal banking on building a team of youngsters.
In order to do so, they are pondering over a move for Barcelona youngster Pedri. The 18-year-old is enjoying a terrific start to his first season in top-division football with the Blaugrana and has earned plaudits from all over the world. Pedri already has three goals and one assist to his name and is gradually becoming one of football’s most coveted young stars.
Barca’s financial situation is being seen by Arsenal as an opportunity to snap upon Pedri in the summer if he continues to perform this way. The price they are willing to pay remains unknown as yet but given that the player has already proven himself in La Liga, the Catalans may demand a significant sum or entirely refute the idea of selling him.
Similar to some other clubs including Arsenal, Barcelona do have an ageing core and they have relied on the services of youngsters to deliver lately especially with Ronald Koeman at the helm. Pedri, along with the likes of Ansu Fati, Francisco Trincao and Ronald Araujo forms a key part of the club’s future and will not be offloaded very easily.
