Joan Laporta, one of the presidential candidates for Barcelona hopes to sign Liverpool’s talisman in the summer.
Spanish giants, Barcelona are almost certain to lose their best player in the summer. Lionel Messi is set to leave his boyhood club after 16 years and set out a new venture. Joan Laporta, one of the presidential candidates hopes to find the Argentinian’s replacement in the summer.
According to Diario Gol, Laporta is lining up a transfer for Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has been Jurgen Klopp’s go-to man since his arrival at the club in 2017. Salah propelled the club to a Champions League title in the 2018-19 campaign. He played a vital part for the Reds in the Premier League winning last year, as they finally lifted their 19th league title.
However, things are not looking good for Liverpool this season. They find themselves sixth in the Premier League table and 22 points behind the league leaders, Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp praised Mohamed Salah after his side’s victory over Sheffield United over the weekend. He also shed some light on the future of Salah at Anfield, hinting at a possible transfer in the summer.
Klopp’s exact words were: “Mo is not only a goalscorer, he has developed as a footballer as well. He is a very, very important player for us and hopefully he will be that for a very long time of course.” The German’s use of the word ‘hopefully’ has sparked transfer rumors regarding the future of the Egyptian.
Klopp is the kind of manager who prefers players, giving their 100% on the pitch and having the motivation to perform better with every passing game. If Salah wants to leave in the summer in favour of a move to Barcelona, Klopp is unlikely to block the transfer given that he prefers players who are committed to the club.
However, given the current financial situation at Barca, it is unlikely that the Catalonians can spend a huge amount of money on the former AS Roma forward. The Egyptian’s current contract at Liverpool expires in 2022. As things stand, Joan Laporta’s plans of signing Salah is not a realistic option for Barcelona.
