Barcelona alternative for Lautaro Martinez has opened the door for potential transfer after speaking about his future.
Barcelona are looking to part ways with their star striker, Luis Suarez, with the newly appointed manager, Ronald Koeman, telling the Uruguayan international that he is no longer needed at the Nou Camp.
While the Catalan side are keen on securing a long-term target, Inter Milan‘s Lautaro Martinez, the deal is yet to be finalized as the Italian side are reluctant about losing the young striker.
While Barca remains keen on securing the Argentine international, they are open to signing other potential successor and with Koeman in charge, a Dutch footballer moving to Camp Nou is imminent. The former Netherland national team coach has been linked with the signing of Lyon striker, Memphis Depay, with the 26-year-old claiming he might not continue with the French side.
I do not see the future, I do not know if I will do the full season here. I have been here for four years, I became captain.” Depay said.
“After you have to look at your career, there is no Champions League. At the moment I don’t know.”
Depay has been outstanding with the Ligue 1 side, scoring 57 goals in 139 appearances. The 26-year-old placed a vital part in Lyon’s Champions League run this season, reaching the semi-final stage, losing only to the tournament winners, Bayern Munich.
During that run, they beat Juventus over two-leg, where Depay’s penalty in the second leg was enough to take them to the quarter-finals to face Manchester City. Lyon beat Pep Guardiola’s side to face Bayern next and despite losing 3-0, the squad fought hard.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing coronavirus, Ligue 1’s 2019-20 season was cut short leading to Lyon ending the season in 7th place. The French side will not feature for the Champions League or Europa League, which might cause multiple superstars like Depay to leave this season.
Barca are hoping to use this to convince the Dutch international to leave this season, as he is a cheaper alternative to the club’s main target, Lautaro.
