Barcelona are ready to negotiate an exchange deal with Manchester City.
The Catalans are hoping to convince the Etihad side by facilitating their desire of signing Nelson Semedo in exchange for struggling Joao Cancelo. Both the Portuguese right-backs have had a questionable season with their respective clubs.
Pep Guardiola has decided that he wants to find a replacement for Cancelo this transfer window with Semedo being the likely candidate but the Catalans have shown mixed emotions towards their full-back.
Semedo has been sharing his minutes with fellow teammate Sergi Roberto for the most part of the season and has only recently convinced coach, Quique Setien, to permanently feature him on the right-flank after the Spanish manager found Roberto a more suitable place in the midfield.
Mundo Deportivo had reported that despite reports claiming the Portuguese’s departure, the Barca board have decided to extend his stay until 2025 by offering a contract renewal. The club’s close relationship with his agent, Jorge Mendes, could make it an easy task especially considering the regular minutes Semedo has received in recent weeks.
Sport, however, reports that the Spanish side are now ready to negotiate a swap between the two Portuguese internationals in the hopes that the Manchester side will also accept Garcia’s move in return.
Eric has found great success under Guardiola, who signed the youngster from Barca’s youth academy. Blaugrana now hopes to reunite with the graduate as he is the perfect successor to Gerard Pique, who at 33 years of age is moving towards the twilight of his career.
The 19-year-old has only one year remaining in his current contract and has the opportunity to either continue to fight for a Champions League trophy with Guardiola or return home and live with his family. The only way Barcelona will convince the youngster is if they show him a promising sporting project that has him at the center of the team’s back-four line.
