Barcelona superstar gives Jose Mourinho his word on joining Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur could be in for a massive summer arrival in 2021 if there is truth behind a Barcelona superstar joining the club.

Barcelona superstar Philippe Coutinho has been the club’s most expensive signing so far at 145 million euros. The Catalans dished out a large sum to land the 28-year-old from Liverpool in January 2018 but he is yet to fulfil expectations. After a productive loan with Bayern Munich, he started this season well at the Camp Nou but not for long.

Coutinho has been underperforming for the Blaugrana due to a lack of preference being given to his most comfortable position. Ernesto Valverde and Ronald Koeman, both, have used the player on the left flank without much freedom. In reality, the Brazilian is at his best while playing in a free-roaming position but at Barcelona, it’s unlikely he will play in such a way.

With the club’s bankruptcy a very likely prospect, Barcelona must desperately get rid of some players and Coutinho could be one of them. The ex-Inter Milan superstar is valued at just 60 million euros, which is a very affordable price tag for most teams, including Tottenham Hotspur who are supposedly interested in him, according to reports.

Spurs are enjoying an incredible campaign under Jose Mourinho but the fact that tactical brilliance has been key cannot be understated. When it comes to playing as a team, others in the Premier League are better than the north Londoners, who are overly reliant on Heung-min Son and Harry Kane for goals and can be leaky at the back.

Mourinho has been pondering over a move for a goal-scoring player and one for Coutinho could exactly be what they need. The Portuguese seems interested in signing the player from Barcelona and supposedly has the Copa America winner’s word about joining Tottenham as well. All things concerned, this would be a terrific move.

Selling Coutinho will help Barca cash-in on a significant amount, whereas he would be the perfect attacking midfielder for Tottenham and flourish in a role where he is likely to have no competition. Mourinho has gotten the very best out of players in the past and there is no reason why Coutinho won’t succeed under him in an attacking midfielder’s role.
