Barcelona shortlist a sensational centre-back from Inter Milan

Barcelona continue to be in dire need of a revamp and have shortlisted one of Inter Milan’s most crucial players as part of rebuilding plans.

Barcelona are planning a double raid on Inter Milan in the summer. Joan Laporta, who is the frontrunner in the presidential election for the Catalans this summer, has hinted at a few possible acquisitions to bolster the Barca squad, despite the financial constraints which are imposed upon the club as a result of the coronavirus situation.

Lautaro Martinez is one of the top targets for Barcelona in the summer, with Lionel Messi almost certain to leave after the conclusion of the season. The Blaugrana are expected to reignite interest in the Argentine despite his own desire to renew his stay at the San Siro.

According to Calcio Mercato, the Blaugrana are also targeting Alessandro Bastoni from the Nerazzurri.

Antonio Conte has moulded the young centre-back well, making him a vital part of the Italian side in the ongoing season. The Italian defender is an imposing figure in defence, and stands at over 6 feet. His strength and agility make him one of the best prospects in world football at the moment. His basking form this season has made Bastoni stand out as one of Serie A’s top centre-backs.

Inter Milan will be not letting off the defender without an extraordinary transfer fee. Bastoni arrived at Inter at a sum of 30 million euros, and his valuation in the transfer market has soared ever since. He has played 20 Serie A matches for his side and was a part of all six Champions League matches this season.

To acquire the services of Bastoni, Barcelona will have to shell out a huge sum. A transfer fee of around 60-75 million euros will entice the Italian side to consider the offer. Anything less than the said amount is expected to be neglected.

Given the fact the Gerard Pique has turned 34 this year and is not the player he once was, Barcelona will surely be looking forward to invest in a young centre-back who can carry his team forward for the next 5-10 years. Eric Garcia is on track to arrive this summer from Manchester City, but the poor form displayed by Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti could compel the side to look at an option or two more.
