Barcelona have ruled out the possibility of selling one of their star players in the upcoming transfer window

Antoine Griezmann’s tenure at Barcelona has been pretty sub-par as the former Atletico Madrid talisman has not been at his best since he arrived last summer. The World Cup winner switched sides in July 2019 as Barcelona agreed to pay his release clause of 120 million euros.

The Frenchman’s move to the Catalan side had supposedly given hope to club fans as the world-class striker was backed to fit into the Blaugrana system and help the team in increasing the attacking threat. However, things turned ugly for the Spanish Supergiants as last season the club failed to get silverware and had to end their season on a bitter note as they were thumped by Bayern Munich in an eight-goal rout.

The embarrassing defeat raised a lot of questions on the club’s recruitment policy and also on the role of some of the star players in the squad. There were concerns regarding the impact of Griezmann as many experts felt that the 29-year old was just “average” in his debut season.

Amidst all the transfer rumours, there were some speculations regarding the former Atletico man leaving Koeman’s side in the upcoming winter transfer window. But According to ‘L’Equipe, it has been reported that the World Cup winner will not leave the Catalan side this winter as the Blaugrana outfit is not interested to sell the world-class forward.

Despite having an average season, Barcelona is ready to back Griezmann as the club would only decide the player after the end of this season. The former Sociedad man was a vital cog in Diego Simeone’s side during his stint at the Wanda Metropolitano as the forward notched up over 150 plus goals in the Red and white jersey.

Ronald Koeman does not have a lot of choices in the striker position and hence will not hesitate to slot in the French international as a lone striker in his starting lineup. At present, the 29-year-old is confined to a bench role due to “tactical requirements”, as per claims by the Dutch coach. The former Atletico forward will have to step up whenever the team needs him and make the most of his opportunities if he is to kickstart his stagnant career.
