Barcelona might just lose out on their long-time target to Manchester United this summer transfer market, according to the latest reports
Ronald Koeman is currently planning on a massive summer overhaul despite the limited transfer budget due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Barcelona has already closed a few signings including Ivan Rakitic to Sevilla, Arturo Vidal to Inter Milan, Nelson Semedo to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and are expected to close the deal of Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid. With a couple of superstars leaving this summer, the Catalans have created sufficient space in their wage structure to afford a high profile player.
The left-back position at the Camp Nou has been a serious weak point for Barca last season. Jordi Alba has failed to find his form after dealing with injuries and Junior Firpo still seems quite unsettled at Barca. Ronald Koeman is eager to offload the former Real Betis defender this summer and has shortlisted a mutual target shared by Manchester United.
The man in question is Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax Amsterdam. The 28-year-old has already conveyed his message to the Dutch club’s board that he is eager to leave the club this summer to play in the European top five leagues. Tagliafico has shown the quality to play in some of Europe’s best clubs and it has now been reported that Manchester United are willing to battle it out with Barcelona.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the lookout for a left-back as Luke Shaw struggles to keep fit and replacement Bradnon William is far from being a first team choice player. The Red Devils are also in talks with Alex Telles and have agreed to personal terms with the player, however, the English side is yet to strike a deal with Porto.
If the Alex Telles operation does not go through, Ed Woodward has given the Norwegian manager the greenlight to go for Barca’s long time target, Nicolas Tagliafico. At 28, the Argentina international is in the peak of his career and a move to either the Old Trafford or Camp Nou would certainly do him well.
