Barcelona places Paris Saint-Germain forward as an alternative for Lautaro.
Barcelona are scouting alternatives to Lautaro Martinez, as negotiations with Inter Milan hit a standstill, with Paris Saint-Germain’s striker named favorite.
The Catalan giants’ pursuit for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez is well known, but the ongoing negotiations have shown no development for many weeks now, as the special clause in the Argentine’s contract allowing other clubs to make a bid does not become active until July.
Sport, via Sky Sports, reports than Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani is being heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou. The reason for this has to do with the fact that the Catalan’s ongoing negotiations with Inter have not resulted in any developments since the last time the Italian side rejected Barca’s latest bid.
Even Inter Milan’s sporting director recently revealed that he does not want Lautaro to leave this summer as he considers him a vital part of the current squad. The demand of 111 million euros is clearly far too expensive for the Spanish giants in the current market and there is no sign that the Nerazzurri will consider reducing the amount.
In Italy, reports claim that for this reason, Blaugrana have prepared a plan B to secure a striker this summer with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being named as a top free option. Sky Sports, however, reports that even PSG’s Cavani who is out of contract this summer and is made available for a free transfer, could be a possible target.
The La Liga side can now secure the second striker of the Uruguayan national team and have the option to have the duo of Cavani and Luis Suarez. The only downside is that both the Uruguayans are over 30 years of age and will not be the long term attacking solution that Barca desire.
Ideally, Quique Setien’s side still desires the transfer of Lautaro but at the same time, they have to prepare for a backup plan to at least resolve the striking issue for the next one-two years.
