Barcelona president is ready to spend big on Brazilian defensive midfielder.
Barcelona have found the perfect replacement for 32-year-old Sergio Busquets in Olympique Lyonnais despite having Frenkie de Jong.
Despite already signing an aging Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic in a bizarre exchange deal for a young and promising Arthur Melo, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu is yet to feel satisfied as he continues to search for additional reinforcement.
The Catalans are planning a major midfield overhaul with many players leaving this summer. Arturo Vidal has been tipped to leave this transfer window with many still interested in the Chilean’s services while Ivan Rakitic is being heavily linked with a return to his former Spanish side, Sevilla.
Meanwhile, their latest signing Pedri Gonzalez has an uncertain future with the midfielder being predicted to leave on a loan along with youngster Carles Alena. While Pjanic has predominantly played in a double pivot role for the Italian champions, Barca are planning to use him as an attacking midfielder instead, leaving Busquets without a substitute.
While Frenkie de Jong has been named as the ideal replacement, the board believes that the former Ajax star will fit better as a central midfielder rather than a defensive one, thus implying that they are in the market for a new CDM.
Reports claim that the Spanish giants have identified Olympique de Lyon midfielder, Bruno Guimaraes, as the ideal successor to Busquets, who is also heavily desired by Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone.
The Brazilian international joined Lyon in January for a fee of 25 million euros and quickly adapted to the French league. The youngster was immediately placed in the starting eleven and together with his teammates, managed to defeat Serie A champions, Juventus, in the round of 16 of this year’s Champions League.
Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, the Ligue 1 campaign was cut short due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which resulted in Lyon missing out on the European championship for next season. The Brazilian is now planning to use the special clause in his contract that allows him to leave if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League and with Lyon facing Manchester City next, it seems that the midfielder will be experiencing his final games with the French side.
