Barcelona plot a replacement signing for Lautaro Martinez from the Serie A itself
Barcelona finds itself in a nerve-wracking position. Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez could possibly leave the club this summer leaving a huge void in the attack. Having said that, Ronald Koeman has also created a list of players he wants out that would even free up some space and wages for new recruits.
However, the question arises if any young player would want to sign for the turbulent Catalan club and risk their career. It is highly unlikely that the younger players would want to make a move the Camp Nou after the recent events.
Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan remains the club’s number one priority signing of the summer since the player has already shown his potential and is young. However, the interest shown by Manchester City and the confirmation by Inter that Antonio Conte will remain as the coach next season has more or less ruled out the chances for Barcelona.
SPORT reports that the Catalans have decided to take a gamble and have looked at Lazio’s Ciro Immobile. The 2019/20 Golden Boot winner has had a stellar season, scoring 36 goals and providing nine assists in just 37 matches. However, after a season-long breathtaking performance by the 30-year-old, Immobile has demanded a raise in his contract.
The former Seville man earns three million euros a year and it is now reported that the player wants six million euros a year that does not comply with the club’s financial structure. Meanwhile, if Barca manages to free up Messi and Suarez the club could potentially create a buffer of 120 million euros in their wage budget.
Fitting Ciro Immobile’s wage demand would be no task for Barca, however, it is absolutely foolish for the Blaugrana to sign another 30-year-old after the club signed Miralem Pjanic from Juventus. Koeman has his eye on Memphis Depay of Lyon, however, Rudi Garcia will do everything in power and will leave no stone unturned to keep the former Red Devil forward in France.
