Barcelona are looking to sell multiple players this transfer window but might not make an economic profit from the departures.

Newly arrived Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman, has a tough job over reinventing a struggling Catalan side. The Dutch coach has been keen on selling multiple struggling stars including Arturo Vidal, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, and Samuel Umtiti.

The French defender has been a shadow of his former self ever since his knee operation, forcing the former coaching staff to establish the permanent partnership between 33-year-old Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet.

While the pair has been great for the most part of the season, the lack of depth has truly caused multiple issues for the Spanish giants. While multiple defensive reinforcements have been linked with a move to Camp Nou, Umtiti’s departure is imminent as Koeman does not have the Frenchman in his plans.

Mundo Deportivo via Cadena SER reports that while Koeman is keen on selling the center-back, the club are yet to receive any offers for the struggling star. The injury-prone defender has found it difficult to deliver consistent performance in recent years, making clubs reluctant about making any offers.

The Catalan side are now looking to sell the Frenchman for free. Koeman’s interest in Lyon’s striker Memphis Depay could potentially provide Umtiti an escape to his former side. Depay desires an exit from the French side after they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The Dutch international has been identified as the ideal alternative to Lautaro Martinez as Inter Milan are reluctant about letting the Argentine striker go this transfer window. Umtiti could be included in a potential deal for Depay but the Ligue 1 side do not wish to retain their former star.

Umtiti has shown a desire to leave as he is aware that he will not get playing minutes under Koeman, which might hinder his chances of securing a spot in the France national team.
