Barcelona and Real Madrid’s transfer plan to sign Neymar will likely collapse.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid were keen on acquiring Neymar this summer but any possibility of a deal has faded away due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic amidst uncertain future with Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar has been closely linked with a move back to Camp Nou ever since his departure back in 2017 with last year being the closest the Brazilian ever got to reunite with his former teammates, but in the end, the Parisiens hindered his chances. Barca ultimately bought Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid to fill the attacking void.
Real Madrid were ready to offer a massive amount for the Brazilian but the 28-year-old refused to join Barca’s arch-rivals in the hopes of securing a move to Camp Nou. Recent reports suggested that PSG have struck a deal with their forward that practically allows him to leave at the end of this season if two of their conditions are met. Firstly, a reasonable offer must be made by any suitors and secondly, that Neymar should give his full commitment to PSG’s Champions League run for this season as they await the announcement fo their opposition in the Quater Finals stage in August.
“Right now, no chance, they seem very dedicated and happy, nothing to do with what is said. What’s more, I think neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona could handle a deal of this caliber in this situation, but I’m no economist and I’m not involved at either club.” Herrera said
Barca are hoping to convince the French side by offering Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann in exchange but the Parisiens have previously rejected the offer despite being interested in the players being offered. Perhaps they will change their mind if they witness Neymar giving his best in the current Champions League campaign where the two sides might clash should Barcelona defeat Napoli in their second leg clash on 7th/8th August.
