Barcelona target former Real Madrid academy graduate as defensive reinforcement.
The Catalan side have been looking for a plan B for aging Jordi Alba with youngster Junior Firpo being chosen so far. Firpo’s disappointing performances, however, have made Barca president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, believe that a new left-back is a priority for the club.
After scouting many available left-backs like Alex Telles and Nicolás Tagliafico, the president has decided to chase a cheaper alternative instead with Chelsea’s struggling star being the favorite.
Marcos Alonso has been outcasted by Frank Lampard and wishes to leave the club ahead of next season. Ben Chilwell of Leicester City has been named the ideal signing by Lampard, hinting towards Alonso’s inevitable departure.
The Spanish international joined the Blues in 2016 from Fiorentina and quickly established himself as fan-favorite due to his impressive performances. The 29-year-old, however, has been struggling lately and believes that his time in Stamford Bridge is coming to an end.
An experienced defender along with being a very cheap signing, at 25 million euros, for any European club, Alonso has been chosen by Barca. Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested in acquiring the former Real Madrid graduate, while Lionel Messi is being reluctant about his purchase especially because of his links with Los Blancos.
The Argentine maestro desires fellow Argentine, Nicolas Tagliafico from Ajax but the current financial constrain at Camp Nou is making it difficult for Bartomeu. The president must decide which signings are a priority as with a limited budget, only a few signings are possible based on cash transfer while others must be conducted using an exchange deal.
Barca are keen on securing Manchester City’s want-away star Eric Garcia while continuing their focus onto bringing a new striker with Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez being named the favorite.
