Barcelona make the final decision on Philippe Coutinho’s future after months of speculation and transfer rumours

After the departure of Neymar Jr from the club back in 2017, Barcelona acquired a huge amount of funds specifically 222 million euros, which they could use in their favor to make game-changing transfers. What followed were two huge signings for the club in Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

These two players were signed to replace the likes of the Brazilian and provide greater depth to the team. However, though the idea was in the right place, it was far from being executed to perfection. Coutinho and Dembele came to be as one of the biggest flop signings, with the Frenchman being injured for most of his tenure at the club and the Brazilian being extremely inconsistent with his performances.

Since then, the former Dortmund prodigy has secured his place on the bench ridiculed with injuries, making appearances for the Catalans once in a blue moon, and the former Liverpool star, been sent to Bayern Munich for the 2019-2020 season with an option to buy.

Coming to the key problem that Coutinho faced at Barcelona which limited his success at the club was that his playstyle is far too similar to that of Lionel Messi, which often caused a clash in between games. In addition to that, he wasn’t even played in his favored position where he could abuse his ability to score from outside the box or find creative defense opening passes.

The Bundesliga champions opted out to buy the Barca castaway and he is now set to make a return to the Camp Nou, to be greeted by their newly appointed coach Ronald Koeman. The Dutchman has clearly stated that he plans on using the Brazilian star to the team’s advantage and finally give him a role that will allow him to play to his strengths.

He has made it clear that Coutinho is going to stay with the Blaugrana and ruled out the possibility of a loan deal to any other club, the only way that they part with the forward is if a club arrives with a huge offer to sign him permanently. After the controversies and disappointments related to the Spanish giants, the Cules will be hoping to find some promising and positive results next season and on a good day, Philippe Coutinho is a player with the ability to provide such outcomes.
