Barcelona forward, Antoine Griezmann, wants a move to the Premier League.
The Catalan side are hoping to keep a hold of their 120 million euro signing despite his constant disappointing performance in his first year at Camp Nou. The Barca board signed Griezmann against the request of the dressing room.
The former Atletico Madrid forward was linked with a move back in 2018 which he rejected publically through a video embarrassing Barca’s approach. Griezmann has struggled to fit in with the Barca philosophy and in his first season, he has managed just 8 goals, with none scored in the past 8 games.
The Frenchman is also having a lot of trouble with Boss, Quique Setien, which was evident in the clash against his former team. Setien made him warm up for a good 35 minutes only to bring him in the game with 2 minutes remaining, which has further aggravated their relationship.
Mundo Deportivo reports that if Barcelona do decide to sell him, the player’s favorites are either of the Manchester clubs. This, however, seems unlikely as the coach now has his days numbered in the club and it is more than likely that he won’t last longer than this season. This means that Griezmann will be given an opportunity to redeem himself under the new leadership, instead of being sold off.
The latest draw against Atletico gave Real Madrid an advantage of 4 points, which means that Setien only has today’s clash against Villareal to prove his worth to the board. He might not even see through the current season and could be losing his job to one of the many candidates the Board prefers.
Considering the huge investment the club made for Griezmann and with the uncertain times of the Covid-19 pandemic, it seems unlikely that the club will get a good sum for the Frenchman even if they do decide to sell him. It seems more likely that a new Coach should be able to utilize his services and perhaps bring back the brilliance for which he was signed.
