Barcelona have found an alternative for Gini Wijnaldum of Liverpool in Paris Saint-Germain’s defensive midfielder
Barcelona has shown interest in Gini Wijnaldum and was looking forward to opening talks with Liverpool over a potential transfer. The Dutch international has been linked with a potential move to the Camp Nou for the past month. The Liverpool midfielder has not yet agreed to sign a new contract with the Reds and could possibly leave the club next summer as a free agent.
Although recent reports state that the idea of a potential move for the Dutchman has been dropped by Ronald Koeman. The Catalan club is said to have found an alternative to Wijnaldum and have targeted Idrissa Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain.The Senegalese international has been touted as a potential replacement for the Premier League Dutch midfielder.
Gueye has had limited game time at the Parc des Princes and had managed 32 appearances in all competitions. The defensive midfielder has been more of a bench player for the French Champions and has had to compete with the likes of Ander Herrera and Marco Veratti for a starting spot in the midfield.
Thomas Tuchel considers the Senegalese as a key player for his side as the German has often handed him starts as he considers him the “next best option” in his star-studded squad. The defensive midfielder has shown solid defensive qualities in the midfield and has been useful on the offensive front as well.
Barcelona might be willing to sign the 30-year-old midfielder as the former Everton player has had tons of experience playing as a defensive midfielder and can provide the much-needed physicality lacking in the present Barca side. With Busquets failing to keep up with the intensity of the modern game, the Catalan side can bring some firepower in the form of Gueye.
Ronald Koeman has not yet indulged in initiating official talks for the Sengalese international.Thomas Tuchel will have to decide whether his side can afford the loss of one of his key backup players. Both sides have less than 10 days to reach upon an agreement as the transfer window closes on October 5th.
