Barcelona consider selling their saviour to Bayern Munich this winter transfer market to cope with their high salary payroll
Barcelona had declared a loss worth 400 million euros during the 2019/20 season and the Catalans continue to face a serious financial downfall in the new season as well. One of the major reasons for their current financial struggles is due to the improper wage structure at the club. Players such as Samuel Umtiti are earning 12 million euros a season meanwhile the consistent performers such as Marc Andre ter Stegen was making less than 5 million euros before his recent renewal.
The payroll at Barca is a complete mess and to cope with their current struggle, the club has considered offloading Ter Stegen to the European champions of the 2019/20 season, Bayern Munich. The German goalkeeper is 28-years-old and is the perfect replacement for Manuel Neuer who is 34-years-old.
The Catalans are willing to sell the player for 80 million euros this winter transfer market, however, it seems highly unlikely that this deal will go through given the fact that Bayern still considers Neuer as their first-choice goalkeeper. Neither would Ter Stegen agree to a secondary role where he would have to compete with one of the world’s best goalkeeper for a spot in the starting eleven while he could start for any other team.
Meanwhile, the Catalans have their eye on David Alaba as his tenure at the Allianz Arena is coming to an end. The Austrian defender will not be penning a new contract with the German powerhouse and will either be sold this winter or leave the club as a free agent next summer.
Barcelona, Manchester City, and Real Madrid are in contention for his signature. The Catalans could also consider a possible swap deal with Ter Stegen, however, that seems to be highly unlikely. What do you make of the current situation at Camp Nou? will Barca sell Ter Stegen to Bayern?
