Barcelona are open to offers for two forwards to overcome massive debts

Barcelona are reportedly open to the idea of offloading two forwards in the summer to cope with their financial situation.

Barcelona have certainly improved by leaps and bounds under Ronald Koeman. The Catalans are now in contention of winning the Spanish league along with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid and they could possibly finish the season with a domestic double.

While their on-field performances continue to improve under Koeman, Barca face a tougher challenge as they look to balance their books over the summer. Joan Laporta has been tasked with the responsibility of restoring the club’s financial structure which is currently in the doldrums of debts valued at over 100 million euros.

On the other side, the Catalans will also attempt to make a few signings over the summer and renew Lionel Messi‘s contract which is set to expire in June. It is quite evident that Barca will look to free up some funds from their payroll and are reportedly open to the idea of selling Philippe Coutinho and Martin Braithwaite at the end of the seasons, claims Sport.

Coutinho who is currently out injured has failed to live up to the expectations at Barcelona. The Catalans broke the bank in the winter transfer market of 2018 when they signed the Brazilian for a record sum worth 135 million euros- making him the club’s most expensive signing.

The former Liverpool midfielder has appeared just 14 times in all competitions this season- scoring three goals and providing two assists before picking up an injury.

The 28-year-old is valued at just 40 million euros on the transfer market and is on contract with Barca until June 2023. With that being said, it is quite evident why Laporta has considered parting ways with Coutinho this summer before his market value depreciates any further.

Meanwhile, Martin Braithwaite was signed as an emergency signing from Leganes in February 2020. The 29-year-old has turned out to be an excellent option from the bench after scoring eight goals and providing four assists since his arrival.

However, the Blaugrana are looking into the option of signing Erling Haaland and Eric Garcia in this transfer market and they will be looking to free up some funds from their payroll. Which other players should Barcelona also consider selling?
