Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are lining up to sign Juventus forward after a lackluster 2019-2020 season with the Italian side.

Serie-A side Juventus have struggled to put up consistent and good performances for the 2019-2020 season. A lot would argue that it was due to the appointment of the former Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri as the coach and the lack of midfield creativity and dominance in his side. This statement, however, is not far from the truth, the Bianconeri midfield has been very poor throughout the season and was often the butt of many jokes in the footballing world.

Juventus were still able to lift the Serie-A trophy by just a single point, a feat which is not that impressive as they are by far the best team on paper in the league, and such uninspiring performances are not expected from the Turin side. Sarri’s men had also put up a very disappointing display in the UEFA Champions League, getting knocked out by the French side Olympique Lyon, a result which came as a surprise to many.

But things are to change from this season, with the sacking of Sarri and appointment of midfield legend Andrea Pirlo as new head coach for the 2020-2021 season. The 47-year-old does not have much experience as a manager but if there is one thing Juve can trust the Italian with is establish dominance in the middle of the park. The Italian has a few things on his agenda, the first being getting rid of players who have underperformed or have no role to play in his future plans for the club.

While the fate of most of the players in undecided, one player whose departure is almost certain is Italian international Federico Bernardeschi. Since the arrival of the player from ACF Fiorentina back in 2017, he did not quite adapt to the team, an issue which was very visible last season. Failing to leave a mark or create a difference in the team, the Zebre would be looking to sell the 26-year-old in exchange for funds or include the player in a player swap deal.

Bernadeschi has no shortage of admirers, and it would be relatively easy to get rid of the talented forward. According to Calciomercato, two clubs particularly interested in the former Fiorentina player are Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

With the appointment of Frank Lampard as the new coach for Chelsea, the Englishman has had a long list of transfers – looking to revamp the club and bring back its glory days. One of the first things was to bring in offensive reinforcements, and a player like Bernadeschi with his flair and skills up the pitch would be a perfect addition to the Blues for their squad renovation.

With Atletico Madrid, they have not had the best of seasons either, and have struggled with their attacking prowess. Diego Simeone’s side has always been great defensively but the match against RB Leipzig in the Champions League showed that the Spanish side was lacking firepower up the pitch. With the addition of the Juventus star in the squad, the skillset that he offers can prove to be a great asset for Los Colchoneros for upcoming seasons.

The destination of the Italian forward remains to be very uncertain, but one thing which isn’t so is that Juventus would be grabbing any chance they get to rid themselves of the 26-year-old provided they get a convincing offer.
