Atletico Madrid are all set to sign an Arsenal midfielder as the player has arrived in Madrid for his medical and presentation

Atletico Madrid has made minor changes to their present squad as the club has not yet been able to acquire top quality players in the ongoing transfer window. The COVID pandemic has crippled the finances of many football clubs and Atletico has been no stranger to this issue. Their only marquee signing was Luis Suarez from Barcelona this summer.

Although Diego Simeone‘s side is willing to add one more player in their current setup and it is none other than Lucas Torreira. The Spanish club was reportedly in contact with the Uruguayan midfielder and was even willing to swap Thomas Partey for the Arsenal outcast who is not wanted by Mikel Arteta.

Recent developments suggest that Atletico Madrid is all set to complete a deal for the former Sampdoria man and will soon bring the player to the Wanda Metropolitano.
It has been reported that the 24-year-old midfielder has arrived in Madrid and is set to undergo his medical for the club.
Torreira hasn’t been at his best lately as the player has struggled for form last season. The Uruguayan had broken his ankle against Portsmouth last season and had to miss a major portion of the campaign.

Mikel Arteta has not been able to guarantee a starting spot to the defensive midfielder and therefore has assigned a bench role to the former Sampdoria man. Last season, the player made 29 appearances in the Premier League and had managed only a goal for the Gunners. Diego Simeone had reportedly contacted the Uruguayan personally to offer him a switch to Atletico. Sources believe that Torreira is convinced to join the Rojiblancos on a loan deal.

The arrival of the Arsenal midfielder will provide more options to the Athletico boss as the club already has Thomas Partey and Hector Herrera as their defensive midfielders. We might witness intense competition among the trio for a starting spot in the team. Both clubs are expected to make an official announcement of the loan deal for the player. It will be a win-win situation for both parties if the move goes through.
