AS Roma ponder over the signing of Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac as he falls down the pecking order for Mikel Arteta

After an extremely disappointing 2019-2020 season, Arsenal somehow managed to conclude on a high note, winning the FA Cup against Chelsea in the finals and lifting the Community Shield. The Gunners have carried the same winning spirit into the 2020-2021 season winning three out of their four games played in the Premier League, and look strong for the remainder of the season as they have made very smart signings and offloaded unnecessary players as well.

With Mikel Arteta being appointed as manager of the club not too long ago, the North-London side was expected to go through a revamp to gain back the title of one of the European elites. The club essentially became a laughing stock for football fans due to the shambolic defense that the club feature, which has even cost them goals and a few games as well. However, the Spanish coach has done a fantastic job to mend this flaw by bringing appropriate replacements.

Also, with the addition of Thomas Partey in the defensive midfield, a lot of pressure might be relieved from the backline. But, as it seems Arteta might not be completely done with the renovation and still wishes to offload a few players and bring in fresh legs. According to reports, Sead Kolasinac might be the next player to be relieved of his duties as the left-back for the Gunners as Serie A side AS Roma are interested in signing him in the January transfer window.

The Bosnian international has fallen down the pecking order for Kieran Tierney to take his place, and the 38-year-old manager will have no use for him anymore. Consequently, the interest from Rome might be very well worth pursuing by the Premier League side. On the flip side though, the Gunners would only have Kieran Tierney as an option to play on the left-back position and looking at the Scotland international’s injury history, it would be wise for Arteta’s side to sign a backup.

There happens to be plenty of quality fullbacks available on the transfer market and though the English side has not shown visible interest in any of the players, there is no shortage of options to look into. Nicolas Tagliafico, the 28-year-old who plays for Ajax Amsterdam would be a perfect candidate to bring to the Emirates Stadium. The Argentine would also be relatively cheap with reports stating that the Dutch side is open to selling him for a fee of around 22 million euros next season.
