Should Arsenal follow Tony Adams and sell off two key players?

Tony Adams advises Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta to get rid off two players in the summer and look for a world-class replacement.

Tony Adams, former Arsenal centre-back played for the Gunners from 1983-2002. In his 19 year spell at Arsenal, Adams made 504 appearances and was part of four league winning campaigns. It is safe to say that Tony Adams has done enough to make him a club legend at the north London team.

The former centre-back opined on the changes tMikel Arteta has to make in the summer. Tony Adams suggested that his former side should get rid of their right-backs, Hector Bellerin and Cedric Soares in the summer and look for their replacement. Although forming a key part of the Gunners’ squad, Bellerin has failed to impress this season. The Portuguese right-back, Cedric Soares has had a decent season so far and is battling with Bellerin for a place in starting lineup.

Selling both the right-backs in the summer, would be a bold decision by Arteta. However, Tony Adams was spot on when he stated that Arsenal should look to buy a new right-back in the summer. Bellerin, a former La Masia graduate, who has spent 10 years at the Emirates is likely to find his way out in the next transfer window. The Spanish right-back hit his peak form a couple of seasons ago, but injuries and poor form have led to a tremendous downfall with little hope of turning it around.

Arsenal have shied away from spending big money on their transfers, something which has angered their fanbase over the years. To sign a quality right-back defender, the Gunners will have to shell out big money as they are likely to fight it out against the top European Clubs. The elite teams focus on improving their defence and spend huge amounts of money addressing this issue. Manchester City have invested in the two world-class right-backs, Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo, which has reaped huge dividends for Pep Guardiola.

The best-case scenario for the north London team is to keep either of Hector Bellerin or Cedric Soares in their squad for the 2021-22 season and look to sign a right-back in the transfer window. The Gunners need to invest heavily in this transfer if they are to compete for the Premier League title in the coming years. Arsenal need someone like the Manchester United star, Aaron Wan Bissaka who can put in a hard shift match after every match and can stop the opposition attacks by making tackles almost anywhere on the field.
