Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals his intentions for his future.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, former captain of Arsenal and their star forward has frozen his contract renewal talk in hopes of securing a move to the Spanish league. Barcelona have been looking for a permanent, long term replacement to their striker, Luis Suarez, and Aubameyang is hoping that the Catalans choose him for the job.

After Barcelona’s uncertainty over Lautaro Martinez’s signing and their unsuccessful trial of Martin Brathwaite of Leganes, the Catalans are still scouting for a “no. 9”. The Gabonese international is hopeful that he’s the plan B in case the Lautaro negotiations don’t yield anything, and he wants to move to Camp Nou this transfer window.

The 25 goals he has scored this season make him a desirable plan B for Barca, and thus he has yet to commit to Gunners for any contract renewal. According to Daily Mail, via Spanish Newspaper Diario Sport, “the 31-year-old still has his heart set on a move to the Nou Camp.”

While the club captain clearly has the potential to do well, as he proved with the 2 goals against Manchester City that put his Premier League side in the FA cup final, it seems that the extension talks with his current club might not happen, if they lose against Chelsea.

If he really desires a move to the Spanish giants, they could look to sign him at a reduced price with his contract expiring in 2021. An acquaintance to both Frenchmen Ousmane Dembele and Samuel Umtiti, he should fit right in with the Blaugranas.

Widely revered as one of the best strikers in Europe, the Spanish giants would be gaining an extremely talented replacement for the Uruguayan but at 31 years of age, he would be a short-term investment and it’s entirely dependent on the Martinez deal.

Meanwhile, Arsenal evidently doesn’t want to let him leave so easily, and the Spanish manager, Mikel Arteta was quoted saying “The quicker we do it for me personally the better because the player will be more focused, more determined and calmer. But we have to respect the timings as well and the needs that the football club has.”

Should Aubameyang remain at the Emirates or wait for Barca?
