Arsenal’s superstar makes a serious decision on his future
Mesut Ozil has gone through a rollercoaster of emotions since he signed for Arsenal in 2013 for 50 million euros from Real Madrid which made the midfielder the most expensive German footballer. Ozil arrived at the Emirates Stadium with the great expectations to please and the former Real Madrid man was a star under Arsene Wenger who even described Ozil as one of the most intelligent and technical gifted players in the modern game.
However, particularly under former Gunners and Sevilla boss Unai Emery, Mesut Ozil’s form started to decline rapidly. Was Emery at fault for Ozil’s decline? the question still remains debatable, however, it was clear that Ozil’s style of play did not work with Emery’s tactics.
The former Real Madrid man has now become an expensive liability for the Gunners due to his inconsistent performances. Mesut Ozil earns a mouth-watering salary worth 350,000 pounds per week and has failed to feature in a single league game under Mikel Areta since the restart of the Premier League spot.
The German midfielder is on contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2021 and his departure will certainly create a mixed atmosphere since the player realistically has no contribution towards the team lately, however, his the magical presence that Ozil brings to the Emirates Stadium each time he graces the field will certainly be missed.
The Express reports, that Ozil has decided to run his contract out until the summer of 2021 rather than leaving at the end of this season. Rumours have sparked that the former Los Blancos superstar has considered a move to either Turkey or the USA. Turkey’s infamous club Fenerbahce have emerged as favourites to sign Mesut Ozil and the Gunner’s friend Acun has stated that both the parties are nearing a deal and that it would happen soon enough.
David Beckham‘s Inter Miami has also kept a close tab on several players including the likes Ozil, Arturo Vidal, and Antoine Griezmann. The former Atletico Madrid striker has admitted that he would like to move to the USA to play the last few years of his glamorous career.
Meanwhile, Mikel Areta’s side still has a slim chance of qualifying for the Europa League next season as the club competes with Wolverhampton for a spot with just two points separating both the English sides.
