Arsenal is willing to offer one of their best defenders to Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal was once considered amongst the greatest teams in Europe around 10-15 years ago. Since then, the English side has fallen down the hierarchy of big clubs massively. Not being competitors for the Premier League and sometimes not even qualifying for any of the European Competitions, forget having a chance at winning them. One of the most legendary sides in Europe, being the only team going a whole season unbeaten has had a terrible spell of bad seasons and are looking to bring back their glory days.
With the appointment of Mikel Arteta as head coach, this season Arsenal has finished 8th in the league but still somehow managed to win the FA Cup, beating London rivals Chelsea in the finals. The Gunners coach has decided that the squad needs a major revamp and would be looking to let go of older players, players that do not feature in his future plans for the club and players that haven’t been performing well recently. The funds gathered from this sale would then be used to bring in newer talent to the squad.
However, there are transfer rumours that come in as a surprise, like the possible departure of Alexandre Lacazette or now according to reports, Hector Bellerin to Ligue-1 side Paris Saint Germain. The French champions are in the market for a right-back after their star Thomas Meunier left the squad this June to join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer.
The Parisians then had to play Thilo Kehrer at the position in the Champions League finals, which could be one of the reasons they lost as the Belgian international would surely have been a better option at keeping Kingsley Coman in check.
The former Barcelona man has been one of the best fullbacks in the Premiership, but due to injuries and a major dip in form, he no longer has that title. Even after that, the 26-year-old has been the first choice for Arteta and after the confirmation of the transfer of Maitland-Niles, the Spaniard manager would have no good backups at the position apart from Cedric Soares. This makes a move away from the Emirates, even more, unlikely for Bellerin.
As of now, no deal has been confirmed but the Arsenal star remains to be at the top of PSG’s wishlist for this summer, and the Champions League finalists would be pushing hard to make a move happen this summer window. If a good enough offer is to be made to the London side, it is hard to see them declining it as funds are the only thing the FA cup champions are looking for.
