Arsenal consider Chelsea’s superstar as a feasible alternative option for the midfield if the Thomas Partey operation fails

Arsenal is keen on offloading three midfielders this summer as the players do not fit Mikel Arteta’s style of play. The board is willing to build a team that suits the former Manchester City assistant manager’s style of play and Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guenzdouzi and Lucas Torreira are the midfielders that might depart the club this summer.

The Gunners have kept a close tab on Atletico Madrid’s central-defensive midfielder, Thomas Partey. However, the issue with signing the Ghana international is his 50 million euros release clause. The north Londoners are not willing to spend such a huge amount as the club has been the worst affected football team from the Premier League top six during the pandemic.

It has now been reported that Mikel Arteta believes that Chelsea’s vice-captain Jorginho, would be an ideal feasible alternative option ahead of Thomas Partey. The 28-year-old Brazilian was linked with a move out of the Stamford Bridge all season long and was heavily linked with a switch to Juventus. However, it seems like Frank Lampard has bestowed his confidence in the Brazil international midfielder.

If Arteta is to sign the former Napoli midfielder, he would have to offer a swap deal as Jorginho is currently valued at 50 million euros which is the same price for Thomas Partey. However, unlike Atletico Madrid who is stern on only receiving the release clause fee, Chelsea is keen on an idea of a potential swap deal.

The Spanish manager would have to either offer Guenzdouzi in the swap deal or would have to potentially offer Guenzdouzi along with Torreira to sign Jorginho. The Brazilian’s addition to the Gunners midfield could provide healthy competition for Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos. Jorginho would certainly bring stability in the middle of the park due to his style of play and would help the team keep more possession.

What is your opinion on signing Jorginho ahead of Thomas Partey? Who would you want to see at the Emirates Stadium and which player would fit better under Mikel Arteta’s 3-4-3 system?
