Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United to tussle for Barcelona ace this summer transfer window as the Catalans look for a new forward
The Lionel Messi soap opera has finally come to an end after the player stated that he has no other option but to continue at Barcelona for the 2020/21 season. With Messi set to stay and Barca closing in on Memphis Depay for just 25 million euros, Ronald Koeman would certainly have an excess of attackers in his squad.
Barca could possibly start the 2020/21 season with Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, Martin Braithwaite, Memphis Depay, Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, and Lionel Messi. Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele’s development remain as the pivotal objective for Koeman and the Dutch manager will ensure that both the players get ample game-time. However, that means that one of them would have to join Luis Suarez as well who is set to leave Camp Nou in the next few weeks.
The Daily Mail reports that Antoine Griezmann of Barcelona is the one that might leave this summer. The report states that Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have shown interest in signing the player. However, it seems highly unlikely that Griezmann would move as Koeman wants him to be the centre forward under him.
Another important point is that Barcelona broke the bank last summer to sign the French forward from Atletico Madrid. The Catalans paid a whopping 120 million euros for the player and it is highly unlikely that they would let him leave after just a season.
One must also consider that even if Barca do consider to offload Griezmann this summer, then it certainly will not be for cheap. The Spanish side will not accept a bid below 100 million euros for their prized striker and given the current economic situation, it is highly unlikely that a club could afford to sign the player.
The arrival of Memphis Depay might make life complicated for the former Atletico Madrid forward, for now only time will tell what lays ahead for Antoine Griezmann
