Arsenal need an injection of fresh faces in their squad and have shortlisted one of the Premier League’s brightest youngsters for 2021.
Arsenal were terrific against Chelsea as they won London Derby by a 3-1 margin on Boxing Day. The Gunners however have a lot of work to do as they continue to remain 15th in the Premier League standings whilst being drawn versus Benfica in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League, scheduled to get underway in February.
Mikel Arteta in truth does not have as good a squad as he would like and there seem to be several areas in the squad that need refilling. To make things worse, the club does not have a sound financial budget. Nevertheless, the Gunners are targeting players for the next summer with Brighton full-back Tariq Lamptey topping their wish-list, according to the Mirror.
Hector Bellerin has been linked with transfers abroad in recent months, and it is expected that Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain will come knocking once again next year. Barca have just Sergino Dest at right-back and want their academy product back, whereas PSG have just Alessandro Florenzi who is at the club on loan from Roma.
Tariq Lamptey would be the perfect replacement for Bellerin given the characteristics that both defenders possess. The English youngster is capable of running at defences and causing menace with his pace, whereas he brings a great deal in defence as well. Arsenal may be fazed by the Seagulls’ asking price though amid interest from others.
Bayern Munich and Manchester City are both thought to be interested in signing the 20-year-old in 2021. Brighton on the other hand will be keen on tying down their in-demand property for a longer duration. Lamptey has been Brighton’s best player and biggest revelation so far this season, which justifies the attraction towards him.
