Arsenal are ready to make another move for one of the star players from the Ligue 1 as the Gunners look to bolster their midfield.
Arsenal have been vocal about their desire to bolster their midfield as the Gunners made useful additions in the summer transfer window. The north London club was able to bring in one of its prime targets this summer as the club succeeded in its last minute attempt to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.
Arteta’s side have although missed out on a creative midfielder as the English club were not able to bring in Houssem Aouar from Lyon. The Ligue 1 oufit had reportedly backed out on the transfer as the Premier League outfit continued to fall short with their financial evaluations.
The Frenchman had excellent performances under Rudi Garcia last season as the player made 25 appearances scoring three goals and providing four assists in the league campaign. The 22-year-old midfielder played an integral role in the Champions League as his performances inspired the Les Gones to reach the semifinals of the competition.
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne was all praises for Aouar.
Lyon have a great team. I don’t follow the French league as much as other leagues, but if I have to pick one player that has impressed me from Lyon, it would be Houssem Aouar.
There have been speculations regarding Arsenal reigniting their interest for the Frenchman as reports indicate that the Londoners are willing to make one last ditch effort to land the midfielder in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Considering the fact that Mesut Ozil has been frozen out by the English giants, their advanced interest in a creative midfielder comes as no surprise. The German would add a lot to the midfield and was the mastermind of most of their attacks until a couple of months ago, when his situation went downhill.
Aouar can bring in exactly what Ozil does and give Arsenal control of the ball, something which Arteta thrives on. The Frenchman’s vision will also help the Gunners in playing a more fluid and direct style of football, whilst allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to play centrally and focus only on the scoring.
Lyon will not be very keen to let the their prized asset leave in the middle of the season unless they get hold of an appropriate replacement or some cash at the very least. On the other hand, the Gunners would be hoping that their quest to land the creative star is fulfilled at least next summer.
