Arsenal considers signing a Borussia Dortmund midfielder as an alternative to Martin Odegaard who is set to return to Real Madrid.
Martin Odegaard’s short tenure at Arsenal has been spectacular. The Norwegian midfielder’s impact in the midfield has been enormous so far this season despite only signing for the club in January. It has not taken long for the Real Madrid loanee to hit the ground running with the Gunners.
However, his loan spell expires at the end of the season which means that the 22-year-old will be heading back with his teammate Dani Ceballos to the Spanish capital. Arsenal are interested in extending Odegaard’s stay, however, rumours claim that Real are adamant on the return of the Norwegian midfielder.
The option to purchase the attacking midfielder is also out of the cards since it is obvious that Los Blancos would demand an astronomical figure for their talented youngster. With that being said, Bild reports that Arsenal have shortlisted a cheaper alternative to Martin Odegaard.
The player in question is Julian Brandt of Borussia Dortmund. The German midfielder was previously linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, however, the deal had fallen through. This time around, Arsenal are keen on procuring his services once again with Odegaard set to return.
Brandt is valued at 25 million euros making him an attractive transfer target for the north London side. The 24-year-old has immense talent, however, he has not performed at an exceptional rate this season. With just three goals in all competitions this season, it seems like the player requires a change of fresh air and a new challenge to kick start his promising career.
At Arsenal, the German international would fill in the shoes of Martin Odegaard and would compete for a starting position alongside Emile Smith Rowe. However, Brandt offers versatility in the attack as he can even play on either flank of the front three.
Overall, 25 million euros for a talented youngster to replace Odegaard seems like a smart deal for the Gunners. Should Arsenal sign Julian Brandt at the end of the season?
