Arsenal making progress to sign highly-rated defensive midfielder.
Arsenal have been looking for a defensive midfielder ever since the departure of Patrick Viera from the club. He was capable of breaking up the play, a solid player at the back, and a great reader of the game. It has been quite evident that Arsenal misses him which has been their biggest weakness leading to their defensive exposure time and time again.
Mikel Arteta after his appointment has shown ambition and has quickly addressed the need for defensive signings at the club, especially to match the ambition for trophies and compete against the teams above them.
Arsenal have been strongly linked to Atletico midfielder Thomas Partey and have registered a strong interest in the player. Although recent reports in Spain and England are now suggesting that he is close to signing a new contract at Atletico Madrid. This could have potentially ended the interest and hopes Arsenal had to sign the player.
Media Outlet Goal has now linked the Gunners to a move for Porto defensive midfielder Danilo Pereira who is also interested in a move to the Premier League side. Periera has been impressed with the recent improvement and strides being made at the Emirates stadium under Mikel Arteta.
The Premier League giants are reportedly lining up a summer swoop for Pereira who has a release clause at Porto worth £53.8 million. The Portuguese national, in his recent interview with Stats Perform News, has revealed his aspirations and admiration for the Premier League and for the Spanish Coach in particular. This should come as a huge boost in their bid to sign the midfielder.
“I think he (Arteta) is doing a really good job. He is a very good coach who started his career at City under Guardiola and despite his lack of experience, he has with Arsenal played some very attractive football. I like the style of Arteta, and I think I can fit there, the way he plays but also the way he thinks on the ball and the team always has to be together.” Pereira said.
“It is a dream to play in the Premier League. I have also played in Serie A but the Premier League is a huge league and it will make me a better player. I think it’s the best league in the world”. He continued
The acquisition of Pereira will tighten up the defensive structure as well as free up roles of Xhaka and Ceballos, which will give them the license to go forward and join the attacking play. This is a signing Arsenal surely won’t want to miss out on as it would be a signal of intent in the summer transfer window, as well a step in the right direction of what seems to be a huge rebuilding under the Spaniard.
