Manchester City are ready to open their cheque-book once again as they look to strengthen with some more transfers during the summer.
ESPN sources have reported a fresh twist in the Adama Traore transfer saga as Manchester City have jumped the queue ahead of Juventus and Barcelona who also have supposedly registered a strong interest in the Wolves star should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
The Sky Blues are reportedly planning to enter the market for a winger to replace their outgoing player Leroy Sane who recently completed a 54.8 million pound move to Bayern Munich. Pep Guardiola has identified Jack Grealish and Dwight McNeil as potential options, however a stellar season by Traore has made him top the wish-list for Guardiola this season.
Traore has been one of the most improved players this season for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men with four goals and nine assists this season. He has been placed a reported 80 million pound price tag due to the remaining time on his Wolves contract. It is unlikely that Manchester City will be willing to fork out such a high amount of money as their transfer priority this summer is the acquisition of a centre-back.
If the Citizens are to pull through and acquire the services of Traore, this could have massive implications on the title race next season. City are without Leroy Sane and have only Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez as the out and out wingers in the squad with Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden occasionally playing on the wings.
The signing of Traore will allow the likes of Foden and Bernardo to play in their preferred positions in midfield by dictating games from the middle of the park, supported by the bombing runs and pace of Traore on the right and the class of Sterling on the left proving them to be the toughest team to defend against. Not to mention, Sergio Aguero‘s poaching abilities in the box will be handy too.
Pep also has to be aware of Mahrez, who is at the twilight of his career aged 29 and they will eventually need a long-term option on the right. Traore although by no means is a finished product, the signs have been there this season to prove that he is a world class talent who possesses raw pace and is improving his ability on the ball.
With Liverpool unable to spend majorly on incoming players this window and the promising rebuild signs shown by Manchester United and Chelsea, Manchester City have to be careful and need to take their chances on the best available players this window to improve their squad.
Adama Traore’s signing will not only improve the squad depth but also provide much needed competition on the wings. This will result in Pep having different tactical solutions to break teams down quicker and score more goals, something he has profoundly missed this whole season as a result of Leroy Sane’s long-term injury and the absence of a good ball-playing man at the back.
The mega-money signing of Traore will send a clear message to the rest of the teams about the intentions of Man City and also put Liverpool under pressure which will prompt them to spend on players in the upcoming window.
