Kurt Zouma has been linked with a Chelsea departure since a few weeks and has been the subject of slack from the fans of late. However, he had an impressive match against Brighton. Apart from his goal, Zouma also looked good at the back and thwarted a few players from entering the Blues’ box.

With Thiago Silva expected to return soon and Antonio Rudiger also being tipped to get minutes, there is a chance that Zouma’s playing time does face a restriction. However, he has always shown superlative quality and should be given the time and minutes to prove himself in Lampard’s newest roster.

Leandro Trossard’s strike for the hosts proved to be nothing more than consolation but, in all honesty, it should have never gone in from where it did. Kepa reacted poorly to the shot and showed once again why he continues to be the weakest point in the Chelsea squad. Hopefully for the Blues’ faithful, it is only a matter of time before Edouard Mendy is signed.

The Rennes goalkeeper has reportedly agreed personal terms and only a mutual deal is remaining between the clubs. Mendy has also requested to leave his French side meaning that a switch is genuinely on the cards. Kepa will be relegated to the bench once the club’s eighth summer signing arrives, and one may feel that it is for good.
