Real Madrid claimed all three points against Real Betis during a mouth-watering La Liga clash between two fine sides.
Real Madrid defeated Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin Stadium on Saturday evening’s La Liga clash to add their first win in the new La Liga season. Zinedine Zidane’s men beat the Andalusian outfit by a 3-2 margin, courtesy of Federico Valverde, an own goal from Emerson Royale and a late winner from the captain, Sergio Ramos.
A few good minutes at the start bore fruit when Valverde’s slick finish gave the visitors the lead. However, two goals in as many minutes from Aissa Mandi and William Carvalho turned the balance in Betis’ favour but some VAR drama which included a sending off for the home side saw an own goal aid Los Blancos, as well as a Panenka from Ramos before full time.
Here is a look at the five talking points from the defending champions’ first win of the 2020/21 campaign.
SERGIO RAMOS RESCUES REAL MADRID AGAIN
Real Madrid have been reliant on their captain Sergio Ramos and the Spain international was once again to the side’s rescue. In the first half, Ramos did miss a very easy chance in front of goal to make it 2-0, but he redeemed for it with a late penalty past Joel Robles to help the Merengues past a solid Real Betis side.
Apart from the goal, Ramos played a good game and led from the back as he usually does. The 34-year-old picked up where he left off last season and his goals will once again prove to be decisive in the final stages if Real Madrid are to defend their crown. All in all, a great display from Ramos despite room for improvement.
