5 talking points as Real Madrid defeat Barcelona in El Clasico

Real Madrid defeated Barcelona by a 3-1 margin to move six points clear of them in La Liga and beat them for the second time in 2020.

An exciting El Clasico saw Real Madrid claim bragging rights over their arch-rivals, Barcelona, in the Camp Nou. Zinedine Zidane continues his terrific record on the Catalans’ patch where he remains unbeaten as the coach. Federico Valverde, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric were all on target for the visitors in a 3-1 win, while Ansu Fati struck for the hosts.

Real Madrid now lead the Blaugrana by six points in La Liga, and Ronald Koeman has some work to do following just one point picked up out of the last nine available in league play. The defending champions flexed their superiority in both halves, claiming three crucial points on the road after a week of misery, where they suffered home losses to Cadiz and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Here is a look at the five talking points from a thrilling affair.

Sergio Ramos was withdrawn at half-time against Cadiz and subsequently rested against Shakhtar Donetsk. There were doubts over his fitness prior to the all-important Clasico, but the captain passed a test, started and put in a man of the match display. As always, he justified how crucial he is for the Whites.

The Spain international struck the penalty in the second half which swung the balance in Real’s favour and did a super job at the back. One of the main reasons why Lionel Messi or Ansu Fati were unable to have a clear sight of Thibaut Courtois and his goal was Ramos, who remains a fan favourite and once again proved to be the difference for Real Madrid.
