5 talking points as Atalanta manage to stun Liverpool at the Anfield

Group D of the Champions League now hangs in the balance as lacklustre Liverpool face a surprise defeat at Anfield against Atalanta.

Liverpool came into the match against Atalanta upbeat after convincingly beating Leicester City at home three days earlier. However, last season’s revelation side beat the Reds 2-0, thanks to goals by Josep Ilicic and Robin Gosens.

The Premier League champions were given a reality check by Gian Piero Gasperini and his side as they came up with an impressive away win at Anfield.

Liverpool did not have a single shot on target in the entire 90 minutes and looked second best throughout the game. Atalanta’s win means that the group is very much still in the balance.

LIVERPOOL YOUNGSTERS HAVE AN OFF GAME

Liverpool started with three youngsters in their line up last night. Neco Williams started at right-back, Rhys Williams at center back and Curtis Jones started in midfield.

Neco Williams was caught out in most of the diagonal balls from Atalanta and was terrorized by Gosens throughout the game. He did not look comfortable going forward either.

Rhys Williams had a decent game except for one lapse in concentration which allowed Gosens to score.

Curtis Jones, who played the game on Sunday also looked off-colour due to fatigue and could not provide the spark the team needed. His creativity was a big let-down.
