Real Madrid won two trophies in a season that was full of ups and downs, besides being one of extraordinary duration.

Real Madrid ended a long and atypical season with a defeat at Manchester City, which saw their UEFA Champions League end on a low note in the round of 16 for a second year on the bounce. However, it was a campaign that yielded two trophies nonetheless in the shape of La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.

Zinedine Zidane’s men lost just thrice in the top flight, conceding only 25 in the process as they finished five points clear of Barcelona. Los Blancos also got the better of Valencia and Atletico Madrid in direct knockouts during the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. Apart from the silverware and UCL, Real got knocked out in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal.

In what was a season of mixed results, yet significant trophies, here’s a look at their five best players from 2019/20:

Ferland Mendy arrived from Olympique Lyon last summer and made an instant impact. The Frenchman was signed as a replacement for Marcelo and in his first season itself, he proved his credentials and made sure that the club needed to look no further in order to replace the legendary Brazilian left-back.

Mendy’s incredible and powerful physique is undoubtedly his biggest asset, while his pace is not much behind. The 25-year-old is an overall package, doing his respectable bit in the defence as well as attack. His first season at the Santiago Bernabeu was certainly one to remember and there’s every reason to rate him as one of their best.
