Three talking points from the Aston Villa vs Liverpool fixture that ended with a huge surprise as the champions were battered

Tottenham Hotspur’s victory over Manchester United earlier in the day was considered as a bizarre victory, however, the Premier League and its fans were not ready for what was in store for the Aston Villa vs Liverpool fixture at the Villa Park. It was obvious that the reigning champions were favourites to clinch all three points against Aston Villa who were a relegation-threatened side last season. However, the Premier League once again proves why it is considered the most entertaining league in the world as Aston Villa scored seven goals past Jurgen Klopp’s side, in a 7-2 victory.

LIVERPOOL ARE NO LONGER THE SAME SIDE

Liverpool was unstoppable for the last two seasons, however, the 2020/21 Premier League campaign has shown signs of deterioration in Jurgen Klopp’s side. Their opening fixture against Leeds United could be considered as a warning sign that the team was failing as a unit. The Championship side managed to score three goals and was close to drawing the game, however, a late penalty in the dying minutes sealed the game for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s men started the season on a poor note as well after losing out on the Community Shield to Mikel Areta’s Arsenal. The Reds were then subsequently eliminated from the Carabao Cup by the Gunners once again on penalties. Which was then followed by a battering defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park. It is fair to say that their display yesterday against Aston Villa, proves that the Reds are no longer the same lethal side they once were.
