ASENSIO’S TERRIBLE RUN OF FORM CONTINUES

Marco Asensio scored just twice in the league this season and is panning out to be anything but the player he was expected to be. He continues to start for Real Madrid, but to no reasonable justification. The likes of Eden Hazard, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior have all played better than him- which means he shouldn’t start when even two of those are fully fit.

Against Atletico, he was once again poor. The 25-year-old tracked back to defend but did little in the final-third. Asensio’s crossing was extremely poor and he failed to complete any take-on against the opposition’s defenders. Having said that, Real Madrid should consider selling him if a reasonable offer comes to accommodate their planned signings in the squad.

BARCELONA EMERGE AS THE LOGICAL WINNERS

A draw was the best result Barcelona would have hoped for and so it turned out to be. Atletico Madrid still lead La Liga, but the difference between them and the Catalans is three points, with a game in the hand for the former. Real Madrid are meanwhile third now, two points behind the Blaugrana- now stationed at second place.

With 12 matches to go, La Liga’s title race is getting extremely exciting, especially with Barcelona set to face both the Madrid giants. The difference between top and third could be just eight points if Atletico win their game in hand versus Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday. Which way do you think the league will go at the end of the season?
