3 talking points from a stalemate between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid

The second Madrid derby of the La Liga season ended with even honours as both sides eventually settled for a 1-1 draw.

Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid played out a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday. Luis Suarez and Karim Benzema were the goal-scorers in an ultimately fair result at full-time.

The Uruguayan striker scored in the first half with a beautiful finish past Thibaut Courtois. Los Rojiblancos could have extended their advantage in the second period, but Courtois was at the top of his game.

Meanwhile, after a lacklustre opening half, the Whites turned the screw later on and were able to create numerous chances in the last quarter of the game. Benzema’s eventual combination with Casemiro reaped its benefits.

Zinedine Zidane’s men are now unbeaten in 10 successive La Liga meetings versus Atletico Madrid and have not lost a single match at the Wanda Metropolitano yet. The result is set to blow open the title race in Spain, without a doubt.

Here is a look at the talking points from the match.

SUAREZ HAUNTS REAL MADRID ONCE AGAIN

Luis Suarez scored the opener in the match and had a decent opportunity in the second half to extend his side’s lead. Nevertheless, with his opener, the former Barcelona marksman ensured the spoils stayed even. He has had an impeccable record against the Merengues since his days at the Camp Nou and he was once again looking fine on the pitch.

Suarez has now scored 12 goals against the defending league champions throughout his career- which make them one of his favourite opponents. With another inspirational performance, he has now taken his tally in the league to 16 goals- a number that is plussed only by Lionel Messi. He may well win some individual plaudits if Atletico win the league.
