Manchester City kept their quadruple hopes alive by getting the better of Everton in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.
Manchester City had to dig deep to grind out a victory against Everton in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup on Saturday. With this victory, City still remain alive in all four competitions as we head towards the business end of the season.
Ten minutes before full-time, it looked like the match would go into extra time.
However, late goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne ensured that City progressed to the semifinals of the FA Cup. Gundogan continued his fine form in front of goal, as he opened the scoring in 84th minute, whereas, De Bruyne finished off the match as he scored in the 90th minute.
Here is a look at the three talking points from the clash.
GUNDOGAN AND DE BRUYNE PROVE PIVOTAL FOR MANCHESTER CITY
It was the midfield that stole the show for Manchester City on Saturday. Both, Gundogan and De Bruyne scored late goals to set up the victory for Pep Guardiola‘s side. This was a similar scoresheet compared to that of the midweek clash against Gladbach. The midfield duo was on the scoresheet against the German side as well.
So far, the German has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season and has been one of the key players for the Sky Blues in the past few months. In spite of missing in action for a couple of months due to injury, De Bruyne has also had an impressive season so far. The Belgian midfielder has scored 7 goals this season and assisted another 16 goals.
Both, Gundogan and De Bruyne will have to be on top of their games if City are to compete on all four fronts this season.
