3 talking points from a goalless draw between Chelsea and Leeds

Chelsea continued their unbeaten run under their new manager, Thomas Tuchel, as they were held to a goalless draw by Leeds United.

Chelsea remained on the fourth spot in the Premier League table after they were held to a goalless draw at Elland Road on Saturday. The Blues would have loved to bag the three points, but Leeds United were rock-solid at the back and kept Chelsea’s forwards silent throughout the 90 minutes.

Thomas Tuchel will not be very pleased with the result, given that his side are still in the battle to finish in the top four. Moreover, after their impressive victories over Liverpool and Everton, one would expect Chelsea to come away with nothing but three points. As for Marcelo Bielsa, he will be the happier of the two managers, given that his side came closest to sealing the three points and kept a well-deserved clean sheet against a strong opposition.

Chelsea’s defence has vastly improved since Thomas Tuchel took over. The German manager has resorted to playing a back five, with three centre backs and two left-wing backs, a strategy that has reaped huge dividends. However, against Leeds United, Tuchel opted for a regular back four with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen¬†starting as centre-backs.

The Blues have kept clean-sheets in each of their last five matches in all competitions. It includes the likes of Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid. Keeping clean-sheets against some top European clubs is a testament to the fact that Chelsea are heading in the right direction under Tuchel.

Their defensive prowess will be of utmost importance as they host Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League this week. Heading into the fixture with a 1-0 lead, Chelsea will have to be at their defensive best against the La Liga league leaders.
