3 talking points as Tottenham Hotspur defeat Crystal Palace 4-1 at home

Tottenham Hotspur are back in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League after a resounding victory over Crystal Palace.

Tottenham Hotspur continue their winning ways after demolishing Crystal Palace on home soil with a 4-1 victory. Jose Mourinho and his men are back in the race for a top-four finish after getting entangled in a dry patch of form earlier this year. A brace from Harry Kane and Gareth Bale put the host home and dry against the Eagles as they now prepare for an all-important Europa League clash against Dinamo Zagreb.

Spurs opened the scoring early on as Bale was squared in a simple tap-in in front of goal after Harry Kane’s low pass found the Welshman. However, since then, it seemed like the Eagles were settling into the game. Right before Stuart Attwell could blow his whistle to end the first half, Christian Benteke found the back of the net as the unmarked Belgium international tucked away a leaping header.

The Lilywhites bounced back immediately in the second half as Harry Kane and Gareth Bale scored a goal each in quick succession to secure all three points. After two quick goals there simply seemed no coming back for Roy Hodgson’s men. Overall, it was an important victory for Tottenham as they now have hope of making it back into the top four.

A man who can’t do any wrong at the moment is Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid loanee is basking in fine form scoring five goals along with two assists in his last five fixtures in all competitions. Bale was once again lethal in the attacking third against Crystal Palace and it seems like the Welshman is back to his best.

From the attacking perspective, there was simply no stopping the 31-year-old who managed to score two goals and also created four chances for his teammates. Bale was often playing long-balls from the right-wing to the left-flank towards either Son Heung-min or Sergio Reguilon to beat the press. The former Southampton ace managed to complete a grand total of seven accurate long-balls during the game.

Defensively as well Bale was simply astonishing. Winning eight duels and was the only player on the field to not be dispossessed once during his 70 minutes against the Eagles. It was once again another vintage performance from Gareth Bale to cherish for the supporters.
