Real Madrid and Real Sociedad shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium in their La Liga clash on Monday.
Real Madrid salvaged a draw late on against Real Sociedad, courtesy of an equaliser scored by Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian ensured that the honours were even at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium after Portu opened the scoring for La Real with a fine header.
Los Blancos dominated the game but were unable to breach the Sociedad defence more than once, despite creating a number of clear cut opportunities. Mariano Diaz hit the crossbar in the first half and Casemiro had a few chances that went begging too.
Zinedine Zidane sees his side now placed third in the table, level on points with Barcelona, and five behind Atletico Madrid. The Frenchman has more positives than negatives to take from this result, and so it is fair to say that the Merengues are still in the fight for the league.
Here is a look at the three talking points from the game.
REAL MADRID ARE IN DIRE NEED OF A GOAL-SCORER
Real Madrid missed their top-scorer in Karim Benzema, who has resumed training but is yet to achieve match fitness. The side’s second top-scorer is defensive midfielder Casemiro, which is a testimony to the lack of attacking qualities produced by the rest of the unit this time around. That said, the club has to sign a potent marksman this summer.
Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have both been linked with moves to the Spanish capital. Florentino Perez supposedly has his eyes set on two of Europe’s finest talents and it is imminent that one of them will arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Only time will tell who comes first, but both will add a missing dimension to the side.
