REAL MADRID FAIL TO KEEP A CLEAN SHEET AGAIN

Real Madrid were the best defensive side in the top five leagues across Europe last season and conceded just 25 times all season. Unfortunately, they have not been able to transcend that form at the back into the 2020/21 campaign as Los Blancos are now without a clean sheet in five straight games.

Whether Sergio Ramos, their main man, has played or not, the backline has looked very frail this season and the concession of four penalties in the last two outings only goes on to show the lack of coherence at the back. What’s worse is that their record in the Champions League is bad too, with seven goals shipped in three matches.

ZIDANE MAKES QUESTIONABLE SUBSTITUTIONS ONCE MORE

Zinedine Zidane is perhaps the world’s most unpredictable manager and that’s more than visible with the starting line-ups he picks and substitutions he makes. Against Villarreal, his starting eleven seemed to make sense but one would argue his substitutions which were late and lacked any logical explanation, at least from the fan’s point.

Isco has shown he does not deserve to play against the better sides, but he was brought on in place of Martin Odegaard, who was doing decently. Rodrygo, the difference maker on so many occasions was never brought on and Marco Asensio replaced the tired Lucas Vazquez when there were just five minutes to run on the clock.
