Real Madrid now just need two points to seal La Liga following their 2-1 success against Granada in a very decisive week for them.
Real Madrid claimed a narrow win in Granada by a 2-1 margin on Monday evening. Zinedine Zidane’s French connection of Ferland Mendy and Karim Benzema secured the three points for the Whites, putting them on the verge of winning their 34th La Liga crown.
Mendy scored his first goal for the club in probably the best manner he would’ve imagined. After picking up Casemiro’s pass, the former Lyon star used his incredible physique to beat two defenders and smashed home from a very tight angle.
Benzema finished off Luka Modric’s pass with aplomb to give the visitors a 2-0 cushion in the first quarter of an hour. The Frenchman scored for the second match in a row and the strike on Monday was his 19th in La Liga this season.
Within minutes of the second half, Darwin Machis scored for the hosts with a great counter-attack to set up a grand finale in the closing minutes. Thibaut Courtois and Sergio Ramos had to be at their brilliant best and it took some heroics from the duo to ensure success.
Los Blancos can now mathematically seal the title if they win against Villarreal on Thursday and lift the trophy they have longed for in their last matchday versus Leganes. However, from what was a mouth-watering clash, here are three talking points.
